Director
In the winter of 2022, Sam Greeley founded Mill City Futsal. It is the first and only US Youth Futsal club affiliate in the upstate.
Following a collegiate playing career that culminated in achieving All-American status, Sam had several college coaching stops. He served as the head coach at Clearwater Christian College in Florida for three years, after which the school closed due to financial constraints. He then spent time as an assistant at both Emmanuel College in Georgia and North Greenville University in South Carolina.
In late 2017, Sam transitioned from the collegiate to the youth game. Over the course of 5 years, he held the roles of Registrar, Rec Director, staff coach for boys and girls from U8 to U19, and Academy Director at UFC-Furman.
Sam’s first team, the 2002 (U18) boys, made it to the club’s first ever state cup final match. That team also became the only UFC team to beat every opponent in National League play. Sam then took over the 2003-04 (U19) boys, who won the club’s first state cup. Following that success, the next and last boys’ select team he coached was the 2005-06 (U19) group, who also went on to state cup victory.
The same time Sam joined UFC, he also took over the boys’ soccer program at Southside Christian School. In his second season, the team went to the school’s first ever state championship. They started the next season unbeaten, but had the season lost to the covid shutdown. The next two years they won the program’s first two state championships, going back-to-back.
Sam has a Masters in Exercise Science from the University of South Florida, where he served as the Director of Health and Human Performance Lab. He led two pilot studies examining psychological responses to high-intensity interval training that led to the award of an NIH grant. He also coauthored a book chapter in sports nutrition, and has work published in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning.
Sam is currently completing a Doctorate of Elite Performance in Sport at one of the world’s leading sport research programs at Dublin City University. His cohort includes international team sport coaches and members of various Olympic committees, including the US. The focus of his work is in skill acquisition.
